An ultra wide angle view of the complete stadium is always fascinating while watching Cricket or Football match.

Sports cinematographers prefer to use ultra wide lens named ‘ABAKUS 381 STADIUM LENS’ to capture entirety of thousands of people and a fish eye view of stadium architecture.

Abakus Stadium Lens made its professional debut at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

The Abakus high definition stadium lens is a fast (f1.8) lens which enables ultra wide vision shots. The angle of view is greater than 180 degree, the diagonal angle being a full 210 degree, making it possible to include a huge arc of vision on a single shot.

With this type of lens, technically known as an F-theta lens, distortion in any one sector of the shot is minimal. When viewing a curved scene such as inside a stadium, curvature is minimal even at the edges. This makes it the ideal lens for shots at events such as pop concerts, soccer, athletics, motor races and theme parks. There are no TV lenses available with a similar wide angle.

The Abakus stadium lens can be used at any level and can therefore pick up greater detail or give a players view of the stadium, in order to pick up the excitement and atmosphere of an event. Although the Abakus stadium lens was initially designed to enable high definition (HD) quality, specified versions are available to suit standard definition (SD) cameras. Utilising the Abakus Super-16 adapter the lens can also be used for super-16 cinematography or Micro four thirds Sensor capable Digital cameras.

This lens accepts 1 or 2 internal 40.5mm filters and offers rotating capability.

A wrap-around, front protection cover is used for Stadium lens for use in extreme environments (Ball rolling over to lens) where there is risk of damage to the front lens.

Abakus also has other models named ‘Arena’ (focal length 5.5mm) and ‘Theatre lens’ (focal length 6.5mm).
