High speed cinematography involves shooting at a higher frame rate than 24 fps, giving yet a more surreal look. High speed cinematography effect is also called as Slow motion a process of filming or taping a motion-picture or television sequence at an accelerated rate of speed and then projecting or replaying it at normal speed so that the action appears to be slowed down.

Few digital cinema cameras which shoot high resolution images are also featured with option of shooting with high frame rates.

There are different kinds of slow motion: normal and ultra. With normal slow motion used to be shot at 150 fps in 35mm film. But with the Red Epic, filmmakers can shoot 2K at 300 fps without switching cameras.

Around 500 or 1000 fps, depending on the subject matter, slow motion crosses the border from normal to ultra, showing something extraordinary, Ultra slow motion reveals a new temporal viewpoint. We can see the invisible details in a freezing time.
